What Can the Community Do?

Communities can:
  • Build a culture that values, includes, respects, encourages and celebrates children
  • Provide safe, substance free environments for children to learn, play and grow
  • Ensure that all children have equitable access to recreation

Business/Labour can:
  • Increase philanthropic contributions with a primary focus on prevention and early intervention
  • Incorporate support for children and youth into marketing programs
  • Encourage, recognize and support employee volunteer contributions in the community
  • Seek ideas from employees about how to have a positive impact on children’s development
  • Develop family-friendly workplaces, including flexible work arrangements and assistance with access to high-quality childcare services
  • Adopt a children’s charity
  • Make social responsibility a key component of organizational culture

Media/Communications can:
  • Consider impact on children and youth in all productions and publications
  • Make children’s issues a key priority
  • Promote healthy outcomes for children

Individuals can:
  • Participate in private/public discussions about issues facing children and youth
