Leaders of the Way
In 1975, Merrill Wolfe of Edmonton Motors and Campaign Chair that year, forged a philanthropic path that forever changed the landscape of giving the United Way. He stepped forward with ingenuity and conviction, and his unwavering leadership created the platform for thousands of people who continue to support his legacy through the Leaders of the Way program.
For many years, caring individuals have demonstrated their support by following in his footsteps and supporting United Way in the leadership giving program. Since its inception, the Leaders of the Way program now has an impressive honour roll of individuals who help lead our community every year.
The Leaders of the Way Program recognizes individuals and their families who make annual gifts of $1,000 or more. These gifts represent a level of community participation and involvement that helps bridge the gap between the increasing needs in our community and the services available to meet them. Currently, the Leaders of the Way Program includes 3,143 individuals who gave $6.25 million in 2008. The program continues to play a vital role in United Way's success in strengthening the Alberta Capital Region.
Many workplaces run successful Leadership campaigns in conjunction with their workplace campaign. Leadership giving benefits the community, the donor, the workplace and United Way. The workplace gains a positive image as a community leader in support of a common purpose. Leaders of the Way participate in an effective system of giving that has significant impact in the high priority areas of our community.
The program also provides donors with the ability to lead by making a personal investment reflective of their commitment to helping those in need. It provides deserving recognition for going above and beyond in building our community. For example, a contribution of $2,000 will recognize the donor as a Pacesetter in the program.
